New Dining Concept for Celebrity Edge

edge2

Celebrity Cruises has unveiled a new dining and entertainment experience for its Edge-class ship. The botanic-inspired Eden venue spans three decks at the rear of the ship and has a floor to ceiling glass exterior, the largest at sea. Celebrity Edge is due to launch in December 2018 and opened for bookings in March. It will be joined by three sister ships in the class in 2020, 2021 and 2022. Eden was described by Celebrity Cruises as a design, culinary and entertainment experience, purpose-built for the venue. The premium line has teamed up with performance company Variety Worldwide who take on the role of ‘Edenists’. The Edenists perform in the space as well as work as part of the food service team. Richard D. Fain, chairman and chief executive, Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd said: “Eden, like so many aspects of Celebrity Edge, represents a unique advance in cruise ship design. It’s an experience that’s multi-faceted and innovative. “Connectivity to the ocean is one of the most exciting hallmarks of Edge Class, and with more glass than any other room at sea, Eden embodies that outward-facing concept beautifully.”

Architect Scott Butler designed the venue, using the golden spiral Fibonacci sequence as inspiration,  alongside designer Patricia Urquiola. Becky Thompson-Foley, associate vice president of entertainment, explained the daily entertainment experiences are divided into three episodes; ‘Chillful’, ‘Playful’ and ‘Sinful’. The ‘Chillful’ experience begins in the morning and allows guests to use Eden as a space to relax, accompanied by aerial performers and musicians such as sitar players. In the afternoon the ‘Playful’ experiences involve culinary and cocktail classes, wine tasting and pairing seminars, again alongside pop-up performers and visits from Edenists to soulful and down tempo music. The evening ‘Sinful’ experience begins at sunset when Edenists dance down the spiralling staircase to lead guests to their tables. Food courses will then be interspersed with tableside dance, acrobatic and magic performances. The evening finishes with ‘The Crescendo’, a full cast performance accompanied by a didgeridoo and beat-box duo.
